Wouldn't it be great to have some survey information to be able to compare what the training is like in each school of ophthalmology? Well, the National Training Survey is conducted by the GMC each year, and I have trawled their reporting tool, gathering information on each ophthalmology specialty school. For the past 3 years I have taken six useful indicators and given each school a rank.
Go to the individual pages for each rotation to see their chart with rankings for 2015 and 2016.
Note that the results are by deanery and not by rotation; for example, we can't know how the amalgamated Severn and Peninsula schools score individually (or Yorkshire North and South, or Mersey and the rest of North West, East Midlands North and South), and the London North Rotation straddles two deaneries.
Remember that the results of the survey can only be as good as the survey design.
Finally, I have taken the ranks for all six key indicators, weighted them equally and created an overall ranking.
